HJF is seeking a Life Scientist I to support the Naval Medical Research Unit - Dayton (NAMRU-D), located at the Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio. HJF provides scientific, technical and programmatic support services to NAMRU-D.  


The incumbent will perform laboratory procedures to assist supervisors with experiments and to provide support in various areas as needed. Use judgment to define and resolve problems and make recommendations. 


Responsibilities:

  1. Schedule and assist with subject screening and data collection.
  2. Assist the Principal Investigator (PI) with paperwork for human subjects and/or animal use research approval and ensure compliance with rules and regulations (subject to final Government review and approval). 
  3. Coordinate the implementation of sponsored and PI initiated research studies, including regulatory requirements, maintenance of files/study records and all activities associated with internal and external audits in coordination with the PI.  
  4. Maintain instrumentation, equipment, and laboratories.
  5. Modify and plan research experiments, procedures, tests, or survey instruments.
  6.  Assist in research design and development of a study budget.  
  7. Assist with preparation for presentations and written published articles.
  8. Monitor supply inventory and replenish stocks through established Command supply procedures.
  9. Coordinate the activities of research assistants and provide training as necessary and/or appropriate.
  10. Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of standard laboratory techniques; ability to follow general instructions; good communication and analytical skills.

Minimum Education: Bachelor’s Degree in appropriate field of research, including but not limited to toxicology, biology, environmental health, biochemistry, chemistry, microbiology, and biomedical sciences.

Minimum Experience/ Training Requirements: 2+ years of laboratory experience.

Physical Capabilities: Long periods of standing and sitting; handling various chemicals.

Work Environment: Office and laboratory environment.

Background/Security: US Citizenship required; eligibility to obtain and hold Department of Defense issued Secret Clearance.
