HJF is seeking a Data Abstractor to support the Infectious Disease Clinical Research Program (IDCRP) in Bethesda, MD. HJF provides scientific, technical and programmatic support services to the IDCRP. This position is responsible for assisting with the electronic medical chart review, data abstraction, and data entry for a research study/protocol. This position will be based out of the Rockville Pike location as well as the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center (WRNMMC). US Citizenship is required for this position.


  1. Identifies individuals’ records in the electronic medical system and reviews outpatient encounters and medication records to determine relevance to research study.
  2. Inputs, reviews, and submits medical information from the electronic medical record into the data management system. Identifies and resolves any documentation discrepancies. 
  3. Complies with research protocol and associated manuals and takes all measures possible to ensure privacy and confidentiality of study records. 
  4. Communicates regularly with protocol Principal Investigator, Associate Investigators, and Clinical Research Manager to provide feedback on project status.
  5. Communicates with Data Coordination Center staff regarding the data management system as well as changes to submitted data.
  6. Attends project team meetings as needed.
  7. Completes other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:   Knowledge of basic medical terminology; ability to perform basic computer skills; excellent communication skills.

Minimum Education/Training Requirements:   Bachelor's degree in a health / biological science or a related field.

Minimum Experience:  0 to 2 years’ experience of data collection or management for human subject clinical trials.

Physical Capabilities:  Ability to sit for prolonged periods of time at a computer and/or desk; ability to move within the worksite and well as travel to other research sites.

Work Environment:  Office and hospital environment.

Background:  US Citizenship is required; eligibility to obtain an interim Secret Clearance.
