HJF is seeking a Research Analyst to support the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA) Partnerships and Innovations (PI) Directorate researcher contractor position. HJF provides scientific, technical and programmatic support services to DPAA. This position is part time temporary working 20 hours/week.

The researcher will provide professional assistance pertaining to DPAA’s partner-related activities. The researcher assists in locating and analyzing sources of information related to military conflicts, battles, and battle casualties.  Travel may be on military and commercial aircraft.

This position regularly interfaces with employees, consultants, partners, and contractors, and communicates through briefings and written products with Agency leadership, U.S. Government employees, family members, foreign officials, and partners as well as potential partners.

Key Tasks:
•    Assist with the planning and implementation of field activity-related partnerships to contribute to DPAA’s mission.
•    Occasionally travel for partnership development or assistance, or other activities as required by DPAA.
•    Complies with all DPAA requirements for writing reports.  Coordinates all issues and research results through all appropriate channels.
•    Protect organization’s value by keeping information confidential.
•    Work directly and independently with clients.
•    Follow all client policies and procedures.
•    Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
•    Comprehensive knowledge of the Southeast Asia Conflict with a heavy concentration concerning the unaccounted-for Americans in the Lao People’s Democratic Republic.
•    Comprehensive knowledge of the required DPAA reports that support mission planning and Family Updates.
•    Possess strong written and verbal communication skills.
•    Proficient in MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Adobe Acrobat.
•    A demonstrated history of initiative and achievement.
•    A demonstrated history of working independently with client staff.
•    Experience working independently with minimal direction or supervision.
•    Experience supporting and anticipating client needs and demonstrating problem-solve skills.
•    Experience performing tasks under tight deadlines and managing shifting priorities.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
•    Master's degree in archeology, history or related degree
•    Must have a Defense Language Proficiency Test of a minimum of 2+ in reading and a /2+ in listening in order to effectively be able to translate and peer review junior linguist translations.
•    At least 2-4 years of full-time professional experience or equivalent specialized training in the Southeast Asia Conflict with expertise concerning the unaccounted-for Americans as well as the resolved incidents in the Lao People’s Democratic Republic.
•    Demonstrated experience in conducting large-scale, detailed research in order to write incident historical reports.
•    Demonstrated ability to work independently on projects to completion as well as in a team environment.
•    Detailed oriented.
