HJF is seeking a Research Assistant II to support the Military Orthopaedics Tracking Injuries and Outcomes Network (MOTION) located at the Naval Medical Center San Diego in San Diego, CA. HJF provides scientific, technical and programmatic support services to MOTION. 

The incumbent is responsible for clinically oriented research in collaboration with others and provides support to the MOTION primary investigators and Research Director. This is a full-time (100%, 40 hours/week) position.

Responsibilities: 

  1. Interact directly with patients in the orthopaedic and allied health clinics to inform them of and educate them about MOTION. 
  2. Actively recruit and consent potential study participants.
  3. Ensure enrolled study participants are correctly completing the outcomes surveys and provide assistance as needed. 
  4. Follow-up (electronically and face-to-face) with enrolled study participants to ensure they complete the outcomes surveys within the appropriate time frame.
  5. Assist with study record keeping as needed.
  6. Provide monthly progress reports to the MOTION Research Director with an emphasis on percentage of patients contacted about the study, the percentage of patients who consented to be involved in the study, and the percentage of consented patients who continued to provide data past the initial visit.    
  7. Maintain supplies required to carry out the project.
  8. Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of research processes; ability to follow detailed instructions; excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.

Minimum Education/Training Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in a scientific or related field.

Minimum Experience: 2 to 4 years of experience.

Physical Capabilities: Long periods of standing and sitting.

Work Environment: Orthopaedic and allied health clinics and office setting.

Background: Eligibility to obtain a Common Access Card (CAC); eligibility to obtain and hold a Public Trust background.
