HJF is seeking Study Coordinator to support the Warfighter Refractive Eye Surgery Program and Research Center (WRESP-RC) located at Fort Belvoir Community Hospital in Fort Belvoir, Virginia. HJF provides scientific, technical and programmatic support services to WRESP-RC.

Accountable to the Director, Warfighter Refractive Eye Surgery Program and Research Center (WRESP-RC). The Study Coordinator is responsible for assisting the Director providing the administrative and organizational resource necessary to achieve the study program treatment goals regarding patient qualification and recruitment. Specifically the Study Coordinator will: manage the patient application process; manage patients in all study programs; explain the program requirements to potential applicants, identify and schedule patients for specific treatment groups; consent study participants and maintain provider surgery schedules; be the lead organizer for patient scheduling in studies; be the primary conduit for WRNMMC IRB updates including providing the research group with informational updates monthly; provide the administrative planning interface with select patient populations; prepare basic statistical reports on application rate data and will assist the program manager in developing application recruitment protocols; develop and update clinical databases. 

The Study Coordinator must complete CITI Research training within 30 days of hire and obtain research certification within one year of hire as a certified clinical research professional through SOCRA or certified clinical research associate through ACRP. The Study Coordinator must also have knowledge of the WRESP-RC organizational objectives; be able to work independently; have sound judgment in solving problems; excellent communication and interpersonal skills.


  1. Recruits, qualifies and schedules patients.
  2. Prepares and disseminates program applications for study programs.
  3. Answers applicant questions concerning the requirements of the Study Programs.
  4. Prepares and maintains surgery schedules for Study Program staff providers.
  5. Prepares and maintains study patient application records.
  6. Confirms all study patient appointments by email/ phone.
  7. Maintains the screening, pre-op and near-term post-op schedule details in the CHCS/ AHLTA and emails weekly update of study schedule to clinic.
  8. Assists in the preparation of study program statistical reports.
  9. Assists with planning and modification of research procedures and tests in active and upcoming protocols.
  10. Reports on status of research activities at least monthly.
  11. Assists with ancillary study testing of research patients.
  12. Relays surgery requirements/changes to laser room staff.
  13. Conduct data entry.
  14. Conducts internet and library searches as needed.
  15. Summarizes research studies as needed; for reports, publications and meetings.
  16. Prepares correspondence for routing and approval for letters of support, CRADAs etc.
  17. Prepares publication clearance requests.
  18. Back up for Maintaining studies registered on in conjunction with Dr. Sia.
  19. Completes other projects as needed.
  20. Assists front desk staff as necessary.

Minimum Education: Bachelor’s degree required. 

Minimum Experience/ Training Requirements: 0-2 years of relevant experience. 

Background/Security: US Citizenship required; eligibility to obtain and hold Department of Defense issued Secret Clearance.
