HJF is seeking a Standardized Patient Educator to support the Simulation Center located at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USUHS) in Bethesda, MD. Incumbent assists with recruiting, training and supervising Standardized Patients (SPs).  Incumbent also assists in managing, coordinating, and monitoring exercises involving SPs.


  1. Assists in managing, coordinating and monitoring SP exercises.
  2. Serves as an Instructor in the SIMCEN and as such is responsible for teaching and administrative assignments
  3. Collaborates in case development and scenario design and in teaching and evaluation exercises.
  4. Collaborates with faculty to develop educational content for SP scenarios to ensure goals and objectives of simulation activities correspond with course curriculum
  5. Logistical planning for SP simulation events which include personnel and space management, organizing equipment, and other Clinical Skills resources in preparation for data gathering during training events
  6. Remediating SPs on scenario portrayal, documentation and evaluation including both written and verbal communication skills
  7. Employs most up to date technological advances to enhance simulation activities
  8. Participates in quality assurance activities to include psychometric evaluation of teaching and assessment methods
  9. Assists in the coordination and supervision of all SP related teaching and assessment activities involving students, interns, residents, physicians, and other health professionals
  10. Serve on standing committees and prepare staff reports as assigned. Represent the University in forums and professional meetings as requested                                       
  11. Engages in research and scholarly activities such as CHSE if available
  12. Other duties as assigned

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of applicable strategies and approaches   to contemporary medical education; excellent communication skills; ability to troubleshoot technical procedural concerns; an ability to work independently and supervise others.

Minimum Education/Training Requirements: Bachelor’s degree. M.F.A. in Acting, Theatre, Education or a closely related field highly preferred.

Minimum Experience: 2 to 4 years of experience.

Physical Capabilities: Walking, including escorting patients, standing, bending, and carrying of light items.

Work Environment: Clinical research setting involving patient care.

Supervisory Control: The incumbent will report directly to, and be supervised by, the Director of Clinical Skills at the SimCen.
