The incumbent in this position will work at the senior executive level as the lead planner for Senior Leadership Engagements (SLEs).  The incumbent will directly manage HJF’s SLE program, ensuring it proactively supports HJF’s strategic plans and organizational priorities, including the follow-up of assigned tasks and recommendation of future SLEs.  The incumbent in this position reports to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO).


  1. Accompanies the CEO and, when designated as the CEO’s representative, the Chief of Staff, to organizational meetings.
  2. Plans and tracks the CEO’s SLEs, including development and maintenance of the tasking tracker derived from meetings, discussions and other actions, as requested by the CEO and/or the Chief of Staff.
  3. When designated, represents the CEO at planning meetings and working groups.
  4. As the CEO’s designated representative, ensures timely and pertinent completion of assigned tasks by responsible HJF Team Members.
  5. Coordinates SLE quarterly reviews with the Executive Staff to ensure the SLE program is aligned with strategic goals and operational priorities and objectives.
  6. Provides In-Progress Reviews (IPRs) on planning efforts for the CEO and Executive Staff.
  7. Assists in preparing trip books for the CEO, including talking points, scene-setters, biographies, and After Action Reviews (AARs).
  8. Performs analyses/studies based on SLEs, business data, and other available information to provide insight into future initiatives for HJF to add value.
  9. Prepares “Thank You” notes and maintain historical files for all completed SLEs.
  10. Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Bachelor's degree and 12 years of relevant experience; however, a master’s degree with 15 years of relevant experience is preferred.
  • Minimum three years’ experience as a planner on a General Officer staff or equivalent; however, military experience at the Lieutenant Colonel (or equivalent) or Colonel (or equivalent) level and graduation from a Senior Service College is strongly preferred.
  • Working knowledge of the Military Health System and the complex interrelationships between military and civilian organizations involved with medical research.  Preferred: candidate with long established interpersonal relationships with regional military health leaders and staff members (both uniformed and civilian) developed through face-to-face engagements.

Physical Capabilities:  Requires long hours of sitting and working at a computer

Supervisory Responsibilities:  Does not have any direct reports

Work Environment:  Primarily office, however, may include some travel to HJF sites, both domestic and international
