HJF is seeking a Research Assistant and AME Support Intern to support the Center for Global Health Engagement (CGHE) in Rockville, Maryland.  HJF provides scientific, technical and programmatic support services to CGHE. Individual works with specific grant team members on a variety of task to include literature searches, scholarly review, analytical assessments and administrative task as assigned and appropriate.  CGHE is a Uniformed Services University based center that assist the Department of Defense in integrating and synchronizing Health Engagement contributions to the Joint Force, Combatant Commands and the Military Services, and ultimately links these activities to national security objectives.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AME DIVISION (50%):

  1. Prepares and conducts background research and/or literature reviews on proposed key topics.
  2. Prepares and develops program materials specified by the grant/project statement of work, the grant/project team, and the Program Management team.
  3. Entry and analysis of current available data.
  4. Administrative duties and functions.
  5. Prepare and author reports on findings.
  6. Performs other duties as assigned.
  7. May travel to local government agencies to gain additional knowledge.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES APRRP PROGRAM (50%):

  1. Assist the Training Coordinator in liaising with course instructors (subject matter experts) to develop and refine course curricula and edit corresponding materials;
  2. Assist the Training Coordinator with the development of course agendas, reports, web articles, press releases, and program fact sheets;
  3. Assist the Conference Manager with coordination of logistical needs (meeting materials, travel coordination etc.) and follow-up as needed;
  4. Assist the Training Coordinator with preparation of meeting/activity summaries and ensure distribution to participants/stakeholders;
  5. Support other APRRP activities as directed, including AME activities to support the APRRP program.

  4. Ability to communicate (verbal and written) effectively in English;
  5. Ability to work both independently and in a team environment;
  6. Ability to exercise sound judgment;
  7. Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  8. English fluency.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Familiarity with disaster management, public health, and international development issues; French fluency, ideally including experience in translation and interpretation. International experience preferred.

Minimum Education: High school or College Coursework towards Bachelor’s degree in a related subject: International Relations or Affairs, Emergency/Disaster Management, Public Health, Communication.

Minimum Experience: 0-2 years of experience

Physical Capabilities: The ability to lift and carry moderate to heavy weight objects (50-75 lbs.).  

Supervisory Responsibilities/Controls: Works under the direct supervision of the AME Program Manager and receives appropriate programmatic and technical guidance from the Principal Investigator, where necessary . Work is evaluated in accordance with Henry M. Jackson Foundation Policy including, but not limited to, results achieved towards established goals and requirements, effectiveness, timeliness, application of sound business practices, and efficient use of resources.
