HJF is seeking a Molecular Research Assistant to support the Operational Infectious Disease Department at the Naval Health Research Center (NHRC) located in San Diego, California. HJF Provides scientific, technical and programmatic support services to NHRC.
The incumbent will provide administrative and technical support for the laboratory, to enhance operating efficiency.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of molecular techniques, basic laboratory, and safety procedures; Knowledge of standard laboratory equipment; Skill in use of word processing, spreadsheet, graphic, email, and database software; Skill in use of pipettes, gel electrophoresis, and other specialty molecular equipment; Skill in use of aseptic techniques; Ability to plan and prioritize work; Ability to distinguish colors; Ability to perform continuous and sometimes long periods of repetitive work; Ability to correctly transcribe laboratory results; Ability to follow standard operating procedures; Initiative and have the ability to work independently; Ability to interface with investigators, vendors, research staff, and study participants.
Minimum Education/Training Requirements: Bachelor's degree in Molecular Biology, Microbiology, or Medical Technology or related field. Must hold at least one of the following certifications: MT (ASCP), MLS (ASCP), MB (ASCP), MLT (ASCP).
Minimum Experience: 0–2 years of related experience. Experience in molecular biology methods is preferred, but not required.
Physical Capabilities: Walking, standing, must be able to lift items up to 20 pounds, must be able to read reports, labels and use computer, must be able to hear well enough to communicate with coworkers, must be able to write, type, and use a phone system. Candidate may be required to wear a face mask while interacting with patients and/or specimens and must be able to pass a respirator fit test. In order for the face mask to effectively protect the user, facial hair must be clean shaven.
Work Environment: Clinical laboratory working conditions. Handle hazardous materials. Possible exposure to infection from disease-bearing specimens; regularly exposed to the risk of blood-borne diseases; must comply with applicable safety procedures.
Security Clearance: It is a condition of employment with the Naval Health Research Center that you undergo a favorable National Agency Check with Local Agency and Credit Checks (NACLC) investigation which will include being fingerprinted. If a favorable NACLC is not received, your employment with the Foundation would terminate.
