HJF is seeking a Post-Doctoral Fellow to support the Military HIV Research Program (MHRP) located at the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research (WRAIR) in Silver Spring, MD. HJF provides scientific, technical and programmatic support services to MHRP.
The incumbent will assist in designing, developing, and executing research projects involving HIV-1 antigens and candidate HIV-1 vaccines. Incumbent works with minimum supervision and investigates the bio-molecular and functional interactions between HIV-1 particles, cells, and recombinant proteins with monoclonal and polyclonal antibodies using state-of-the-art immunological, biochemical, and molecular biology techniques. Incumbent will also utilize cell culture and flow cytometry-based assays. Should have knowledge and extensive experience in humoral and cellular immunology, sterile tissue and cell culture, flow cytometry, immunological assays, and PCR techniques. Incumbent should have strong communication skills in written and verbal English. May also require minimal small animal handling.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of highly complex scientific procedures, techniques, fundamental immunology and familiarity with infectious disease concepts, especially HIV; knowledge and practical experience in flow cytometry, humoral and cellular immunology, tissue culture, biochemistry, biacore, purification of proteins, ELISA, molecular biology techniques, and computational skills. Should have excellent communication skills including the ability to write research papers and grants and a strong motivation to conduct research. Should have the ability to work with minimum supervision, be able to design experiments, analyze data, and troubleshoot technical procedures and supervise technical staff.
Minimum Education/Training Requirements: Ph.D. in related scientific discipline required.
Minimum Experience: 0-5 years of related post-doctoral research experience required.
Physical Capabilities: Work involves long periods of standing, handling numerous chemicals and biological samples in the laboratory.
Work Environment: Laboratory environment; requires working with HIV-1 and blood or bodily fluids; requires minimal small animal handling, may require working long hours including evenings and weekends; involves working with chemicals.
Background/Security: Must have lived in the US 3 out of the past 5 years; eligible to pass a NACI background.
