HJF is seeking an Intern to support the HR Services and Total Rewards Teams, located at the HJF Home Office in Bethesda, Maryland. HJF provides scientific, technical and programmatic support services to Military Medical Research Programs.

The HJF Summer Intern Program offers undergraduate and recently graduated students a hands-on opportunity to work in their desired field while navigating a professional setting. Interns will take the lead on a project or process, supported by their manager, and will have opportunities to interact with HJF’s leadership as part of the summer intern professional development program. Interns must be on site 40 hours a week for the duration of the ten-week program, from the first week of June through August 7.  

The Intern will work with the HR Service and Total Rewards teams to create a survey tool to better understand and measure turnover and retention at HJF, within the scope of "What prompted you to look for outside opportunities?" and "What keeps you at HJF?" adding weight to mission, benefits, passion, organization culture, people, leadership etc.

The intern will gain exposure in developing reports from HRIS system (UltiPro). The qualified Intern will have the opportunity to gain experience working side-by-side with HR Services & Total Rewards teams.  Strong communication skills and basic problem-solving acuity are required, as well as basic experience with Microsoft Office tools with an emphasis on Excel.

The successful summer intern candidate must be enrolled in and actively pursuing completion of a 4-yr degree and have completed at least 65 credit hours of related course work.


  1. Attend HJF intern learning workshops and other scheduled cohort activities.
  2. Research, collect data, and present on a process improvement suggestion for their respective team.
  3. Own an individual project with strategic business impact that you present to senior leaders - 
  4. Analyze data, identify root causes, and recommend solutions for HR related business issues - 
  5. Follow up and solicit feedback from employees on a regular basis with a “customer service” orientation and ability to escalate issues when appropriate - 
  6. Engage our teams in sharing best HR practices - network and learn about multiple functions (HR services, Total Rewards, Recruiting, Learning, Payroll, Accounting, Finance, RIO, BD) 

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: For manager input in conjunction with recruiter. 

Minimum Education/Training Requirements: Rising junior, senior college student or recent graduate preferred. High School Diploma required.

Minimum Experience: 0 - 2 years of experience required. 

Work Environment: Professional office.
