HJF is seeking a Writer/Editor to support the Communications Department, located at Corporate Headquarters in Bethesda, Maryland. HJF is a global, nonprofit organization created to accelerate progress in military medicine.
Our scientific, administrative, and program management services empower investigators and clinicians with the resources they need to find answers and drive change, while removing barriers to success. Authorized by Congress to realize this goal, we are answerable to the people. We serve as a trusted and responsive link between the military medical community, its federal and private partners, as well as millions of American service families, veterans, and civilians who rely every day on the advances and quality of life that result from this work.
In the Writer/Editor role, you are part of the Communications team that both leads internal communications at a global level and provides top-level writing and editorial services to our customers in the military medical space. Your work will encompass many different forms of writing, including web copy, marketing collateral, annual reports and project-specific deliverables.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Must have outstanding writing and editing skills. Expert in AP style. Keen ability to distill complex ideas and scientific information into language appropriate for a lay audience. Strong interpersonal, research, interview and project management skills. Must have sharp editorial, proofreading and organizational skills. Solid digital content building experience in Drupal. Basic computing and web skills (familiarity with MS Office Suite, HTML, etc.) and comfort with learning new systems to enable communications. Experience using PowerPoint, Direct Mail and FileMaker.
Minimum Education: Bachelor’s degree in Communication, Writing, English or Journalism.
Minimum Experience/ Training Requirements: 3-5 years of communication or related field experience required. 5-7 years preferred.
Physical Capabilities: Prolonged sitting and working at a computer.
Work Environment: Office Environment.
