HJF is seeking a Life Scientist III to support the Naval Medical Research Unit Dayton (NAMRU-D) located at the Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio. HJF provides scientific, technical and programmatic support services to NAMRU-D. 

The incumbent conducts procedures, experiments and provides supervision and support in various areas as needed and uses judgment to define and resolve problems and make recommendations.  

Responsibilities:

  1. Works in collaboration with military and civilian researchers to coordinate and conduct research in the areas of warfighter health and performance.
  2. Writes grant proposals to compete for research funding. 
  3. Leads execution of research projects by determining requirements, obtaining/developing necessary laboratory equipment and materials, developing and monitoring progress and financial plans, developing documentation and coordinating approval of related of human subjects use and/or animal use documents, and managing resources necessary to meet project goals.
  4. Prepares presentations, publications, and other products for non-research technical and general audiences.
  5. Reports findings, outcomes, and recommendations to the fleet through formal meetings, presentations, briefings, and publications.
  6. Coordinates the activities of lower-level research personnel and provide training as necessary and/or appropriate.
  7. Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of standard laboratory techniques; ability to follow general instructions; good communication and analytical skills.

Minimum Education/Training Requirements: BA/BS or MA/MS degree in appropriate field of research, including but not limited to toxicology, biology, environmental health, biochemistry, chemistry, microbiology, and biomedical sciences.

Minimum Experience:  6+ years of laboratory experience.

Physical Capabilities:  Long periods of standing and sitting; handling various chemicals.

Supervisory Responsibilities/Controls:  May supervise junior research and other medical staff.

Work Environment: Office and laboratory environment.

Background/Security: U.S. Citizenship required; eligibility to obtain and hold a Secret Security Clearance.
