HJF is seeking Research Assistant position available in the laboratory of Dr. John Wu, Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology, USUHS to study traumatic brain injury and impact of photoperiod. This project will involve techniques ranging from biochemical and molecular biology techniques. Preference will be given to self-motivated applicants (BA or BS) with some experience working with translational and clinical models, knowledge of neuroscience, neuroendocrinology and biochemical/molecular techniques with an interest in traumatic brain injury research.
1. Performs serologic, biochemical and molecular assays on serum and other samples.
2. Maintains accurate records; tabulates and organizes data.
3. Uses computer for data analysis. Writes simple programs for computer analysis of data.
4. Prepares tissue which includes embedding, staining, cutting and extraction.
5. Collects tissue from animal models.
7. Sees that equipment is in good working order or is repaired as needed and supplies are reordered as necessary.
8. Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Technical knowledge of scientific disciplines; knowledge of and skill in tissue culture technique and handling biological hazards and their safe use and disposal;
Minimum Education/Training Requirements: Bachelor's Degree
Minimum Experience: 0 to 2 years experience
Physical Capabilities: Handles variety of chemicals; requires long periods of standing
Background: Eligibility to obtain a Common Access Card (CAC); eligibility to obtain and hold a Public Trust background.
