HJF is seeking a Medical Assistant to support the Counseling Center in the Department of Family Medicine within the School of Medicine, located in Bethesda, MD at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USUHS. HJF provides scientific, technical and programmatic support services to the School of Medicine.   

Responsible for assisting members of the professional nursing staff in a clinical research program and providing basic nursing care to patients.


  1. Works with nursing staff to assure that patients enrolled in clinical protocols are transitioned through their visit efficiently. Escorts patients and/or family members in the clinical center. 
  2. Works in collaboration with support staff, receptionist and medical staff to prepare clinic and exams rooms for the health care professionals.
  3. Schedules and prepares patients for testing and clinic sessions. Performs procedures such as urinalysis, takes temperature, vital signs and assists professional nursing and sonography staff with other procedures, such as recording information.
  4. Reports changes in patient’s condition to nursing staff and reports and documents information about patient care.
  5. Orders and maintains supplies and equipment inventory, recording new materials as required.
  6. Other tasks as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Ability to perform basic nursing functions as related to patient care. Excellent organizational skills, ability to work independently with supervision, and demonstrated ability to work with a variety of people.

Minimum Education/Training Requirements: Certification as a nursing/medical assistant, or current enrollment in a training program such as a baccalaureate, associate degree, or diploma school of nursing.

Minimum Experience: 1 to 2 years experience in medical assisting in a clinical research setting.

Physical Capabilities: Walking, including escorting patients, standing, bending, and carrying of light items. 

Work Environment: Clinical research setting involving patient care.

Background: Eligibility to obtain a Common Access Card (CAC); eligibility to obtain and hold a Public Trust background.
