HJF is seeking a Research Assistant III to support the Audiology and Speech Center located at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland. HJF provides scientific, technical and programmatic support services to Audiology and Speech Center.

The Research Assistant will support the Assessment and Rehabilitation of Blast-Related Auditory Processing at Audiology and Speech Center. They will be responsible for research and/or development in collaboration with others for projects. They will provide laboratory and technical support to senior technical and professional staff.

Responsibilities: 

  1. Performs laboratory research projects, including collection and organization of data. Makes detailed observations about experiments. Provides data analysis and interpretation.
  2. Prepares technical reports, summaries, and protocols.
  3. Maintains clear and accurate laboratory records, inventories and logbooks.
  4. Establishes and maintains databases for research projects.
  5. Maintains compliance with established laboratory safety and other procedures. Provides leadership in the proper disposal of infectious and hazardous materials.
  6. Provides quality control, trouble shooting and the maintenance of specialized reagents and equipment.
  7. Maintains supplies in the laboratory and keeps the laboratory area clean.
  8. Assists with training laboratory staff and visiting scientists as required.
  9. Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of complex laboratory techniques; ability to follow basic instructions; good communication and analytical skills.

Minimum Education/Training Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in a scientific discipline.

Minimum Experience: 2 to 4 years laboratory experience.

Physical Capabilities: Long periods of standing and sitting; handling various chemicals.

Supervisory Responsibilities/Controls: May provide guidance to lower level laboratory staff.

Work Environment: Laboratory environment.

Background: U.S. Citizenship required; eligibility to obtain and hold a Secret Security Clearance.
