HJF is seeking an Equipment Engineer III to support the Naval Medical Research Unit Dayton (NAMRU-D) located at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, OH.  HJF provides scientific, technical and programmatic support services to NAMRU-D. Responsibilities are to provide aeromedical laboratory support.


  1. Coordinate and execute the integration, fabrication, modification and functional testing of complex research equipment (subject to Government initiation and final approval).
  2. Coordinate and oversee operations and maintenance of fabrication equipment located in machine shop, to include maintenance and repair of equipment, and ensure proper use of equipment based on safety protocols.
  3. Coordinate and execute routine and preventative maintenance support for specialized research equipment and devices.
  4. Coordinate all engineering system design phases with other engineers and technical support personnel.
  5. Troubleshoot and repair mechanical deficiencies that arise during equipment start-up and operations.
  6. Develop methods, standards, and procedures to be followed by engineers and technicians in executing design and development projects (subject to Government initiation and final approval).
  7. Perform other duties within the scope of an Equipment Engineer III.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Experience with various types of research equipment. Demonstrates sound written and oral communication skills in English. Accurate and conscientious in following written and verbal instructions, is flexible, willing to learn new tasks, and work as part of a team. Ability to troubleshoot, problem solve and work well under pressure.

Minimum Education/Training Requirements: Bachelor of Science Degree in appropriate field required.

Minimum Experience: 10 years of experience to demonstrate the ability to perform the tasks described above, preferably in a research setting.

Physical Capabilities:  Requires long periods of working in a laboratory setting and/or at a computer; may lift materials weighing no more than 30 lbs.

Work Environment: Office and laboratory environment.

Background: U.S. Citizenship required; eligibility to obtain and hold a Secret Security Clearance.
