HJF is seeking a Clinical Research Assistant II for the Center for Rehabilitation Sciences Research (CRSR) located at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center (WRNMMC) in Bethesda, MD. HJF provides scientific, technical and programmatic support services to CRSR.


  1. Tracks and maintains whole blood biospecimens; inventories samples, and documents receipt and shipment of samples to storage facilities and collaborators in accordance with standard operating procedures (SOPs). Handles specimens and properly packages and ships samples to laboratories/collaborators as required per state laws.
  2. Performs blood processing for serum and plasma samples; regularly updates biospecimen database and logs. Performs regular maintenance of laboratory equipment and maintains inventory of supplies.
  3. Performs data collection by conducting research interviews. Recruits and screens subjects for research studies. Collects baseline and follow up data from subjects.  Checks for validity and accuracy of data ensuring compliance with quality assurance requirements and clinical relevance.
  4. Establishes and maintains database files and progress reports for studies, projects and programs. May perform data analysis and interpretation.
  5. Performs scientific literature searches, identification and retrieval. 
  6. Performs administrative duties such as: assisting in developing and submitting grants, papers and abstracts, manuscripts and presenting studies, developing protocol manuals and data collection instruments; participates in field visits; responds to requests and questions from individuals, institutions, government agencies and funding agencies and participates in the design of research studies.
  7. Assists with the preparation of manuscripts, reports, and presentations including editing and formatting documents. Distributes manuscripts and reports to all scientific collaborators as required.
  8. Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:  Ability to understand and utilize scientific/medical terminology and research theory in both oral and written communications; Ability to use measurable and verifiable information for making decisions or judgments; Skill in statistical interpretation and data analysis using statistical software and/or spreadsheets and database software applications; Excellent organizational and project management skills; preferably – basic knowledge of cellular biology and genetics.

Minimum Education/Training Requirements: Master’s degree preferred – preferably with a concentration in cellular biology or genetics.

Minimum Experience:  2 to 4 years of clinical research experience and wet lab skills – pipetting, cell culture, etc.

Physical Capabilities: Long periods of standing and sitting.

Work Environment:  Office environment, and wet lab environment.

Background: U.S. Citizenship required; eligibility to obtain and hold a Secret Security Clearance.
