HJF is seeking a Laboratory Technician to support the Wound Infections Department Infectious Diseases Directorate located at the Naval Medical Research Center (NMRC), in Silver Spring, Maryland. HJF provides scientific, technical and programmatic support services to the Wound Infections Department.
Responsibilities are to perform a variety of procedures in a microbiology and immunology lab under the supervision of staff scientists, and to assist with animal infection studies.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Technical knowledge of microbiology, immunology, and current research technologies and practices, advanced knowledge of laboratory equipment and laboratory safety procedures, skilled in the use of word processing, spreadsheet, graphic, email software, skilled in the use of aseptic techniques, ability to plan and prioritize work, ability to pipette, use microscopes, and perform staining procedures, ability to identify and distinguish different colors, ability to correctly transcribe laboratory results, ability to follow standard operating procedures, ability to interface with investigators, vendors, research staff, and study participants.; knowledge of and skill in tissue culture technique and handling biological hazards and their safe use and disposal.
Minimum Education/Training Requirements: Bachelor's degree in Biology, Microbiology, Medical Technology or related field.
Minimum Experience: 0 to 2 years’ experience.
Physical Capabilities: Handles variety of chemicals; requires long periods of standing; Animal Handling responsibilities.
Work Environment: Laboratory environment, Animal Research environment.
Background: U.S. Citizenship required; eligibility to obtain and maintain a Security Clearance.
