HJF is seeking a Psychologist to support the Preventing Obesity in Military Communities – Adolescents (POMC-A) study at the Medical and Clinical Psychology Department in Bethesda, MD.  Duties will include conducting group sessions and providing clinical supervision.HJF provides scientific, technical and programmatic support services to the Medical and Clinical Psychology Department.


  1. Examines, diagnoses, and refers participants and potential participants with psychological problems of all complexities.
  2. Provides staff expertise in psychology that is pertinent in a wide variety of circumstances, to include management of potential participants or participants with psychological disorders.
  3. Provides consent to families and conducts psychological assessments with potential participants.
  4. Collaborates with physicians in other medical specialties on cases involving complicated and multi-faceted problems.
  5. Follows through on all cases to insure effective comprehensive psychological services required.
  6. When necessary, perform risk assessments.
  7. Provides supervision.
  8. Directs Quality Assurance studies in the areas of responsibility.
  9. All other duties as assigned

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Expertise in interpersonal psychotherapy, knowledge of DSM-5, background in psychology, previous clinical experience, ability to follow instructions, good clinical rapport, ability to take initiative to solve problems; familiarity with military medical system desirable.

Minimum Education/Training Requirements:  Ph.D. Degree in Psychology

Minimum Experience:  0 to 2 years related experience in a psychiatry service

Physical Capabilities:  Walking, standing, and sitting.

Supervisory Responsibilities/Controls:  Supervise and assist post-doctoral fellows, graduate students, and research coordinators

Work Environment:  Works in a well-lighted and heated office, may be required from time-to-time to work in open clinic

Background: Eligibility to obtain a Common Access Card (CAC); eligibility to obtain and hold a Public Trust background.
