The Henry M. Jackson Foundation (HJF) is seeking a Laboratory Intern to support the Military HIV Research Program (MHRP) and Emerging Infectious Disease Branch (EIDB) Structural Biology Group, located at the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research (WRAIR), Silver Spring, MD. HJF provides scientific, technical and programmatic support services to the WRIAR MHRP and EIDB.
Responsibilities are to provide routine semi-technical work involving a variety of laboratory support duties. Work involves performance of a variety of laboratory tasks of minimal complexity to assist in the maintenance and operation of a research or analytical laboratory. Hands-on experience in the application of protein characterization approaches such as antigenic and stability profiling, and structural characterization will be performed to evaluate candidate immunogens for HIV and EID vaccine candidates. Specifically, this position will assess a set of protein nanoparticle antigens prior to validation in pre-clinical studies.
1. Assists in preparing materials for experiments. Prepares reagents, solutions, and culture media.
2. Maintains and provides custodial care for laboratory specimens, slides, models, equipment, supplies, and glassware.
3. Maintains laboratory equipment and supplies.
4. Assists in conducting semi-routine experiments and analyses.
5. Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of basic laboratory equipment and supplies: ability to follow detailed instructions; ability to handle multiple tasks.
Minimum Education/Training Requirements: High School Student Minimum (or college)
Experience: 0-2 years of laboratory experience.
Physical Capabilities: Ability to perform routine duties for extended periouds of time (>1 hour).
Work Environment: Laboratory environment.
Background: US Citizenship required; eligibility to obtain and hold Department of Defense issued Secret Clearance.
