HJF is seeking a Bioinformatics Analyst to support the Gynecologic Cancer Center of Excellence (GYN-COE) located at the Women's Health Integrated Research Center (WHIRC) in Annandale, VA. HJF provides scientific, technical, and programmatic support services to GYN-COE translational research initiatives. 

The successful candidate will be part of a bioinformatics team responsible for developing, implementing, and supporting bioinformatics software and database solutions in collaboration with clinicians, scientists, and technical staff. 


  1. Perform primary analysis of next-generation genomic and mass spectrometry-based proteomic data acquired from clinical tissues, biofluids and experimental models. Expertise in biostatistical analyses preferred. 
  2. Oversee construction and maintenance of integrative data analysis solutions that integrate multi-omics bioinformatics results with clinicopathologic data to support biomarker discovery and validation.
  3. Collaborate with leading surgeons, geneticists, molecular biologists, biochemists and computational biologists. 
  4. Contribute content to abstracts, publications, conference presentations and grant applications.
  5. Supervise junior bioinformatics team members towards development and maintenance of a bioinformatics data processing and management infrastructure and support of primary data analyses.
  6. Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Strong computer programming skills and hands-on experience in analyzing microarray data, next-generation sequencing data, biomarker-based assay data, knowledge-based data analysis modeling software applications, working knowledge of scientific programming (PERL, Python, JavaScript, R, or Macro for MS-Excel etc), and expertise in working in Unix/Linux and Windows environments as well. Ability to meet project deadlines in a multi-tasking environment. Experience with fundamental and applied statistics. Good communication and analytical skills. Team oriented with ability to work independently. Good time management skills with the ability to prioritize multiple assignments. Knowledge of complex laboratory procedures. Basic knowledge of Oracle database design, implementation, management, and SQL query design. 

Minimum Education/Training Requirements: PhD or MS preferred, however, a bachelor’s degree in computer science/bioinformatics or other major extensive bioinformatics experience and documentation of professional experience in computational biology will be considered. 

Minimum Experience: 6 + years in a related/relevant research/production environment required. 

Physical Capabilities: Requires long periods of sitting.

Work Environment: Office and laboratory environment.
