HJF is seeking a Social Worker to support the School of Medicine located at the Uniformed Services University (USU) in Bethesda, Maryland. HJF provides scientific, technical and programmatic support services to the School of Medicine.   

The incumbent is responsible for clients with professional therapy assistance involving crisis intervention, individual short-term, martial, group and individual long-term therapy.

Responsibilities: 

  1. Coordinate services and direct care to address the needs of USU service members.
  2. Conduct initial assessment of patients’ situation to determine needs and goals. 
  3. Provide mental health counseling to individuals, groups or families. 
  4. Serve as a bridge to essential resources and programs, such as housing, counseling, education, etc. 
  5. Communicate with patients’ care team.
  6. Providing crisis intervention as needed.  
  7. All other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Understanding of basic psychological and psychiatric principles; ability to communicate effectively; crisis intervention skills, understanding of challenges of again, disability, grief and other typical factors affecting military personnel and veterans.

Minimum Education/Training Requirements:  Master’s degree in social work.

Minimum Experience:  4 - 6 years related experience in a psychiatry service.

Physical Capabilities:  Walking, standing, and sitting; Adjust medical equipment and assist in transporting patients.

Required Licenses: Licensed as a Clinical Social Worker.

Work Environment:  Works in a well-lighted and heated office, may be required from time-to-time to work in other setting.

Background: Eligibility to obtain a Common Access Card (CAC); eligibility to obtain and hold a Public Trust background.
