HJF is seeking a Data Analyst to support the Center for Rehabilitation Sciences Research (CRSR) at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center (WRNMMC) in Bethesda, MD. HJF provides scientific, technical, and programmatic support services to CRSR. Responsibilities are to provide support to the data manager, epidemiologists, and scientists.

Responsibilities:

  1. Imports, cleans, transforms, validates and/or model data with the purpose of understanding or making conclusions from the data for decision making and public health purposes.
  2. Assists in making data accessible to epidemiologists, scientists, physicians, programmers and other end users.
  3. Responsible for the validity of data contained in a database file.
  4. Tests data to identify data integrity issues, making recommendations and coordinating with the data manager to plan solutions.
  5. Troubleshoots problems concerning database records and communicate with co-workers and end users of the system.
  6. Consults with programmers and end-users concerning the outline of data requirements.
  7. Performs data archive procedures within established guidelines.
  8. Recommends operating methods to improve processing, distribution, data flow, collection and database editing procedures.
  9. Participates in data-related projects, including but not limited to data normalization, data maintenance, data research, data standardization, data product development, and data quality assurance.
  10. Publishes findings as necessary.
  11. Completes ad hoc data projects as assigned.
  12. Completes other projects and duties as needed.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:  Knowledge and application of data cleansing and migration techniques are mandatory.  Demonstrated analytical skills and passion for analyzing data.  Experience with data modeling.  Must have strong Excel and MS SQL skills.  General knowledge of SAS, SPSS, and/or STATA software.  Ability to investigate data issues and participate in remediation activities. Statistical and data analysis skills are a must to assist gathering and solving data quality issues.  Ability to review detailed documents to validate data in operating systems.  Experience in writing requirements.  Excel MACROS experience is a plus. Familiarity with IDC9 and IDC10 coding.  Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Self-motivated and willing to proactively address issues.  Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously. Attention to detail and focus are a must.

Minimum Education/Training Requirements:  B.S. in health information, information technology or computer sciences.

Minimum Experience:  2-4 years’ experience in working with health data.  0-2 years’ experience utilizing MS Excel features, SAS, SPSS, STATA, SQL query development and/or MS Access database development and maintenance.

Physical Capabilities:  Requires long periods of working at a computer; may lift materials weighing no more than 30 lbs.

Work Environment:  Office environment.

Background: US Citizenship required; eligibility to obtain and hold Department of Defense issued Secret Clearance.
