HJF is seeking a Scientific Research Coordinator to support the Campylobacter Vaccine Program at the Enteric Diseases Department in the Naval Medical Research Center (NMRC) located in Silver Spring, MD. HJF provides scientific, technical and programmatic support services to NMRC.  Responsible for providing administrative research project oversight and integration of administrative and scientific activities.


  1. Provides management of scientific research projects in the department to include timelines and follow-up to ensure projects meet departmental deadlines.
  2. Facilitates information flow between scientific personnel, program head, program manager, and the foundation.
  3. Works closely with program head and program manager to provide guidance and support of research personnel to ensure adherence to program scope of work.
  4. Participates in/monitors research activities on ongoing basis with research staff.
  5. Coordinates the decision-making process between all program participants.
  6. Identifies potential issues and facilitates communication between research personnel and program head.
  7. Creates, organizes and maintains department files.
  8. Keep and track updated records and reports, departmental databases, spreadsheets, and other research documents.
  9. Assists with the development and formulation of laboratory budget.
  10. Assists with the preparation of requests for contract actions and proposals.
  11. Coordinates and approves the initiation and processing of purchase orders, supply sources, work orders and maintenance and renovation requests.
  12. Performs other duties as needed.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of organizational objectives, the federal budget process, office automation; ability to work completely independently; ability to use sound judgment in solving problems; ability to coordinate many complex systems and programs at the same time; excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Minimum Education: Associates; Bachelor’s Degree preferred.

Minimum Experience/Training Requirements: 0 – 2 years related experience in a scientific project or program management.

Supervisory Responsibilities/Controls: Supervises support staff.

Work Environment: Office and laboratory setting.

Background: US Citizenship required; eligibility to obtain and hold Department of Defense issued Secret Clearance.
