A research assistant position is available whose responsibilities are to perform a variety of laboratory tasks to assist in the maintenance and operation of a research laboratory. Work progresses to a variety of cellular, molecular, surgical and behavioral techniques. Applicant will do research related to neuropathic pain and traumatic brain injury.


  1. Performs and maintains primary neuronal and astroglial cultures.
  2. Prepares tissue which includes embedding, cutting, and staining.
  3. Maintains laboratory specimens, slides, equipment, supplies, and glassware.
  4. Carries out a variety of molecular and cell biological techniques, such as PCR, genotyping, and immunostaining of specimens.
  5. Assists in the surgical procedure and behavioral assessment in the animal models of traumatic brain injury and pain.
  6. Maintains supplies in the laboratory and keeps the laboratory area clean.
  7. Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of standard laboratory techniques; ability to follow general instructions; good communication and analytical skills

Minimum Education/Training Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in a scientific discipline

Minimum Experience: 0 to 2 years of laboratory experience

Physical Capabilities: long periods of standing and sitting; handling various chemicals
