HJF is seeking a Study Coordinator to support the Deployment Health Department located at the Navel Health Research Center located in San Diego, California. The incumbent is responsible for overseeing research assistant activities in collaboration with other scientific and technical staff. HJF provides scientific, technical and programmatic support services to Military Population Health, Deployment Health.  Under the supervision of the Principal Investigator, the candidate will oversee the day-to-day tasks of the research assistants in the execution of the study plan.  The Study Coordinator is expected to engage in some limited travel to the offsite locations in order to meet with community leaders and oversee the research assistants.


  1. Oversees and coordinates research assistants for the study in various activities.  Reviews tasks lists; ensures timely completion of project task.
  2. Plans, conducts, controls, communicate investigations under supervision of principal investigator and postdoctoral fellow.
  3. Communicates regularly with principal investigator, postdoctoral fellow, and project administrator in order to facilitate the research assistants' progress in executing program goals/task.
  4. Oversees the writing and editing of project materials such as newsletter, website and other lay publications.  Works closely with HJF Communications and Graphics Departments to ensure publications are completed.
  5. Facilitates communication between HJF and Program IRB Offices to ensure that protocols are submitted in the correct manner.
  6. Coordinates research assistant evaluations.
  7. Works individually and collaboratively with other staff.
  8. Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:  Knowledge of project management; well-organized; ability to follow detailed instructions; ability to handle multiple tasks; ability to meet deadlines of projects; ability to facilitate communication among supervisors, peers, and supervisees.

Minimum Education/Training Requirements:  Bachelor's degree in social science or related discipline.

Minimum Experience:  2 to 4 years experience.

Physical Capabilities:  Long periods of standing and sitting; handling various chemicals.

Supervisory Responsibilities/Controls:  Supervises Research Assistants.
