HJF is seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow to support the Department of Microbiology and Immunology at the Uniformed Services University (USU) in Bethesda, Maryland. HJF provides scientific, technical, and programmatic support services. Responsible for initiating and carrying out research projects in collaboration with a research team.



  • The Post-Doctoral Fellow will study mast cell responses and mechanisms of immune regulation that occur in a mouse model of immunotherapy for allergic asthma.
  • Studies may also be conducted to investigate changes in mast cell function in the setting of chronic helminth infection.
  • The incumbent of this position will be responsible for initiating and carrying out research projects in collaboration with Dr. Edward Mitre in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology, School of Medicine, Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, MD.
  • This project is being conducted by a small group of researchers within a collegial atmosphere.
  • Approaches will include, but are not limited to, animal dissection, the use of multi-color flow cytometry, ELISA, and quantitative PCR.
  • Experience working with small mammal models of allergic asthma would be advantageous.   


Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:  Knowledge of appropriate scientific area; ability to analyze and interpret data.

Minimum Education/Training Requirements:  A Ph.D. degree in molecular biology, immunology, biochemistry, cell biology, or microbiology is required.

Minimum Experience:  0-2 years.

Physical Capabilities:  Long periods of standing and sitting; intricate work with hands; carrying of light and moderately heavy laboratory equipment.

Supervisory Responsibilities/Controls:  May provide guidance to laboratory staff.

Work Environment:  Laboratory environment; may involve working with biohazardous materials; may require working evenings and weekends.
