HJF is seeking a Laboratory Technician to support the Combat Casualty Care Program at the Naval Medical Research Unit – San Antonio (NAMRU-SA) in San Antonio, TX. HJF provides scientific, technical, and programmatic support services to HJF. Responsible for supporting laboratory based research applying the latest scientific knowledge towards the solution of a broad range of theoretical and practical problems in the areas of hemorrhage and resuscitation, immunomodulation, directed energy bioeffects, and bioassay development. Shift work (afternoons/overnights) may be required.



  • Implement and maintain research files.
  • Assist with preparation for presentations and written published articles.
  • Perform daily laboratory experiments.
  • Aid in obtaining peer reviewed manuscripts and composing annotated bibliographies.
  • Assist in ordering and maintaining supply inventory.
  • Perform daily data analysis and report such to PI and other research staff.
  • Provide additional functionality incidental to research activities.


Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:  Ability to support the implantation of laboratory based research studies, including utilization of state-of-the-art methodologies in immunology, microbiology, biochemistry, cell biology and molecular biology. Ability to collect data through complex laboratory/scientific experiments, techniques and procedures. Ability to organize and maintain a database. Experience with techniques including: flow cytometry, FACS sorting, Luminex (multiplex analysis), real-time PCR, HPCL, FPCL, protein quantitation and analysis, nucleic acid quantitation and analysis.

Minimum Education/Training Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Physiology, Neurophysiology, Neuroscience, Immunology, Microbiology, Biochemistry, Cell Biology, Molecular Biology or related field.

Minimum Experience:  0 to 2 years experience

Physical Capabilities:  requires long periods of standing

Work Environment:  laboratory environment
