HJF is seeking a Research Associate II to support the Pathology Department in Bethesda, Maryland. HJF provides scientific, technical and programmatic support services to grants. Responsibilities are to perform laboratory procedures to assist supervisors with experiments and to provide support in various areas as needed.


  • Performs serological tests on serum samples from humans and laboratory animals.
  • Performs eukaryotic tissue culture and culture of hemotropic and intracellular pathogens.
  • Applies advanced methods of in vivo and in vitro drug bioassays.
  • Maintains accurate records; tabulates and organizes data.
  • Uses computer for data analysis. Writes simple programs for computer analysis of data.
  • Performs basic cloning experiments.
  • Performs Southern, Northern, and Western Blots, and nucleic acid amplification/detection methods.
  • Sees that equipment is in good working order or is repaired as needed and supplies are reordered as necessary.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.



Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Technical knowledge of scientific disciplines; knowledge of and skill in tissue culture technique and handling biological hazards and their safe use and disposal


Minimum Education/Training Requirements: Bachelor's Degree.


Minimum Experience: 2-4 years’ experience


Physical Capabilities: handles variety of chemicals; requires long periods of standing

Work Environment: laboratory environment
