HJF is seeking a Deployment Behavioral Health Psychologist to support the Uniformed Services University’s Center for Deployment Psychology’s Military Internship Behavioral Health Psychologist Program.  This psychologist will be housed at Womack Army Medical Center in Ft Bragg, North Carolina and will serve as a subject matter expert on deployment- and military-related psychological health issues at the Center for Deployment Psychology (CDP). HJF provides scientific, technical and programmatic support services to CDP.

This position serves two distinct roles, 1) direct support to the Hospital’s APA accredited clinical psychology internship program, and 2) support to the Center for Deployment Psychology’s training and education mission.

Direct support to the internship program may include: 

  • Developing and delivering high quality didactics to the psychology interns and residents.
  • Providing clinical supervision to psychology interns and/or residents on site, with an emphasis on evidence based psychotherapies (EBPs). 
  • Providing training and supervising interns on psychological testing. Assisting with logistical coordination for the internship, which may involve serving as the deputy director of the internship program.
  • Providing consultation to civilian and military medical personnel and military commanders and conducting and/or supervising Command Directed Mental Health Evaluations and other military specific evaluations.
  • Position will have a limited amount of direct patient care to maintain credentials.

Support for the CDP’s training and education mission may include:

  • Developing and delivering training and education materials to a wide range of medical and behavioral health care providers and students as well as audiences of Service members, military families and others.
  • Lecturing on deployment issues for the CDP as well as teaching courses on deployment related issues in community settings.
  • Serving as a bridge between the internship program and CDP headquarters, as well as other DoD clinical psychology internship programs.
  • Providing staff expertise in psychology that is pertinent in a wide variety of circumstances, to include management of patients with psychological disorders.
  • Must adhere to patient dignity and observe the precepts of the American Hospital Association's Bill of Rights for Patients.
  • Providing training in examining, diagnosing, treating, and following outpatients with psychological problems of all complexities. 
  • Performing all other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:  Ability to diagnose and treat psychological problems of all complexities; familiarity with military medical system and EBPs for disorders common in military populations desirable.

Minimum Education/Training Requirements:  Must have graduated from an American Psychological Association accredited Ph.D./Psy.D. program in clinical/counseling psychology, and possess a current license to practice in North Carolina.  Must have experience at organizing and delivering presentations. 

Minimum Experience:  At least 6 years’ experience post-license, and should possess knowledge of the trauma research literature (PTSD, ASD, etc.). Candidates with previous experience working in military behavioral health clinics, especially those who are prior active duty are strongly preferred. Candidates should have experience in providing DoD/VA recommended evidence-based psychotherapies for PTSD and other deployment-related conditions.

Must be a US Citizen.
