HJF is seeking a Sr. Financial Analyst to support the Military HIV Research Program (MHRP) located in Bethesda, Maryland. Assists in developing, interpreting and implementing financial concepts for financial planning and control.  Maintains and develops complex financial reports to track program financial indicators.  Assist program staff setting up new financial reports and helping them access the financial information.

Responsibilities:

  1. Performs on the monthly basis technical financial analysis of current expenses and projection trends to determine present and future financial performance of the program, the individual projects, and provides feedback to the Finance Director and the Deputy Finance Director.
  2. Assist MHRP program staff with setting up new financial reports that will meet their requirements, provide cost projections, and analyze monthly revenue and expense variances.
  3. Communicates and interacts effectively with all levels of staff within the organization including Principal Investigators and their representatives. Builds positive relationships with a professional and customer-service oriented demeanor.
  4. Review and process monthly expense packages from International Program field sites.  Track open items and advise financial contacts at each site of the status. Work to become subject matter expert for these monthly expense packages from the various sites.
  5. Prepares monthly financial reports for international sites for various stakeholders
  6. Assists with review of budgets for new  cost proposals for the program
  7. Produces monthly personnel and cost center listing for program staff.
  8. Monitors open purchase orders and facilitates the closing process to ensure any remaining funds are returned to the program after the service or product has been received.
  9. Prepares Journal Vouchers, as required, to correct expense charges for projects and cost centers.
  10. Creates Finance Department SOPs to document current procedures and updates existing SOPs accordingly, based on changing requirements and conditions
  11. Assists with initiating, organizing, completing department projects.
  12. Prepares periodic management ad- hoc reports to facilitate decision-making by the program.
  13. Other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Incumbent will be required to work independently and without direct supervision for short periods of time.  The incumbent must be able to identify critical aspects of their job and prioritize multiple competing projects with little or no direct daily guidance from supervisor. Must display initiative and possess “self-starter” qualities necessary for success in a fluid and dynamic work environment.  Must have working knowledge of MS Excel including VLOOKUPS, SUMIF, pivot tables, QuickBooks Enterprise Software, and MS Access; Effective Communication Skills (Written & Verbal); Ability to succeed in a dynamic team environment; Customer Service Oriented; Understanding of accounting processes, procedure and internal controls; Strong research and analysis skills; Ability to adapt quickly and learn new tasks independently; Ability to assimilate detailed information into the bigger picture; Excellent organization skills; Ability to manage competing priorities; Ability to generate bold, creative ideas to improve performance.

Minimum Education/Training Requirements:  Bachelor's degree in Finance or Accounting

Minimum Experience:  4 to 6 years of experience in accounting, finance, or budgeting.

Physical Capabilities:  Prolonged sitting using a personal computer; carrying heavy financial reports, and accessing files.

Supervisory Responsibilities/Controls: Position will report to the Finance Director.

Work Environment:  Office environment. Required to travel to visit international sites 1-2 times a year.
