The Naval Health Research Center is looking for a detail oriented, out-going, and enthusiastic self-starter to provide routine and non-routine research support and study coordination for the Operational Infectious Diseases directorate. This position will help to enhance operating efficiency by being responsible for assisting with data collection, data management, and maintaining up to date study documentation as well as exercising independent judgment to assist in the resolution of problems.
- Compiles and organizes data for research projects.
- Assists in preparation of technical reports, summaries, and protocols.
- Retrieves information from databases and other multiple data sources. Provides research and management reports as requested.
- Coordinates research projects under the supervision of the Study Coordinator.
- Coordinates shipping of supplies and specimens to and from study sites.
- Utilizes good verbal and written skills to develop and present study information to individuals and groups.
- Maintains regulatory documents and ensures that they are up to date.
- Stores study records per protocol.
- Documents all adverse events and forwards to the appropriate Principal Investigator.
- Reviews Case Report Forms and consents for patient eligibility, protocol compliance, omissions, errors, etc. Files study documents as required.
- Ensures personnel at study sites comply with SOPs relevant to the study protocol as outlined by the Principal Investigator.
- Ensures training/reference binders are maintained at each site.
- Ensures proper and timely completion and submission of clinical trial, research, and regulatory documents.
- Assists in training of study staff.
- Travels to study sites, as needed.
- Assists in preparation of articles for publication in peer-review journals.
- Assists in providing training and directing work assignments to research assistants.
- Contributes to the team effort by accomplishing related duties as needed.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Basic knowledge of epidemiology.
- Knowledge of basic disease etiologies and preventive strategies.
- Basic knowledge of survey methods and basic statistics used to collect and interpret data.
- Skill in use of word processing, spreadsheet, graphic, email, and database software.
- Skill in writing memorandums, correspondence, abstracts, articles, and proposals.
- Ability to independently plan and prioritize work.
- Ability to make presentations to groups.
- Ability to be a self-starter and work independently.
- Ability to interface with investigators, vendors, research staff, and study participants.
Minimum Education/Training Requirements: This position requires the equivalent of a college degree in Public Health, Biology or related field. Previous exposure to research is preferred.
Physical Capabilities: Must be able to read and understand reports and protocols, use a computer, hear well enough to communicate with coworkers, stand, walk, sit, write, type, and use phone system.
Work Environment: Office/clinical working conditions in a military setting.
Security Clearance: It is a condition of employment with the Naval Health Research Center that you undergo a favorable National Agency Check with Local Agency and Credit Checks (NACLC) investigation which will include being fingerprinted. If a favorable NACLC is not received, your employment with the Foundation would terminate.
