HJF is seeking a Research Assistant to support the Val G. Hemming Simulation Center (Simcenter) at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USUHS), Forest Glen Annex, Silver Spring, MD location. HJF provides scientific, technical and programmatic support services to the USUHS. The Research Assistant will be responsible for research and/or development in collaboration with others for projects.   Provides laboratory and technical support to senior technical and professional staff.

Responsibilities:

  • Assists the Simcenter in research projects, including collection and organization of data.  Makes detailed observations about simulation events.  Provides data analysis and interpretation.
  • Prepares SOPs, technical reports, summaries, and protocols in support of the simulation laboratory.
  • Maintains clear and accurate Simcenter records, including inventories and logbooks.
  • Establishes and maintains databases for research projects.
  • Maintains compliance with established Simcenter safety and other procedures. 
  • Provides leadership in the proper disposal of infectious and hazardous materials.
  • Provides consultation and assistance to the Simcenter Hybrid lab manager as needed.
  • Maintains supplies in the Simcenter and keeps the Simcenter area clean.
  • Assists with training faculty as required.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:   Knowledge of Simcenter techniques; ability to follow basic instructions; good communication and analytical skills

Minimum Education/Training Requirements:  Bachelors degree in a scientific discipline

Minimum Experience:  4 to 6 years simulation experience

Physical Capabilities:  Long periods of standing and sitting; handling various chemicals

Supervisory Responsibilities/Controls:  May provide guidance to Simcenter Hybrid lab staff

Work Environment:  Simulation center.
