HJF is seeking an Epidemiologist to support the Deployment Health Research Center (DHRC), located at the Naval Health Research Center (NHRC) in San Diego, California. HJF provides scientific, technical, and programmatic support services to DHRC.
The incumbent will provide expert guidance on epidemiologic design and analytic expertise in the conduct of large epidemiologic health studies in the DHRC of the NHRC. Duties will include the planning and implementation of large epidemiologic studies; designing the study methodology; performing statistical analyses of diverse research projects with complex study designs; working with team members to derive an in-depth understanding of the data findings; drafting proposals and writing peer-reviewed publications; exercising independent judgment in the resolution of analytic problems while working in a team environment. Preference will be given to those with experience conducting psychological or behavioral health research or with a strong interest in conducting research in this area.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Desired Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Experience performing statistical analysis using data from a longitudinal cohort study and demonstrated subject-matter expertise in the areas of disease epidemiology or health outcomes. Preference will be given to those with a strong background or experience conducting psychological or behavioral health research.
Minimum Education/Training Requirements: Masters’ degree in Public Health or Epidemiology with 4-6 years of experience in study design. Doctoral level degree in Epidemiology or a doctoral level degree in a related field with demonstrated knowledge and experience within epidemiology and study design/methodology and 0-2 years’ of experience is preferred.
Physical Capabilities: Walking, standing, must be able to read reports, must be able to hear well enough to communicate with co-workers, must be able to write, type, and use computer and phone systems. Lifting may be required.
Clearance: If a security clearance is not active upon hire, the candidate must be able to obtain a security clearance for this position. Candidates will access DoD databases that have classified information.
Work Environment: Normal office working conditions.
