HJF is seeking a Research Assistant needed to support the National Center for Disaster Medicine and Public Health (NCDMPH) in Rockville, Maryland. HJF provides scientific, technical and programmatic support services NCDMPH.

The Research Assistant will be responsible for research and/or development in collaboration with others by providing research and technical support to senior technical and professional staff. The ideal candidate will have a social science background/experience (preferably public health, psychology, etc).


  1. Performs medical education, en route care, and disaster medicine related research projects, including collection and organization of data.  Makes detailed observations about experiments.
  2. Assists in the preparation of technical reports, summaries, and protocols.
  3. Maintains clear and accurate records, inventories and data records.
  4. Performs data entry for research projects and maintains databases.
  5. Enrolls participants in research study, obtains consent, and collects participant paperwork.
  6. Coordinates and communicates, via written and verbal means, with other research personnel connected with projects both on and offsite.
  7. Submits documents and coordinates with USU’s Institutional Review Board, and journals for scholarly dissemination of findings.
  8. Maintains supplies and research equipment.
  9. Provides basic data analysis and interpretation.
  10. Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:   Knowledge of standard research skills such as data collection and management, and IRB processes; ability to follow detailed instructions; good communication and analytical skills; problem-solving ability.

Minimum Education/Training Requirements:  Bachelor’s degree in public health,  psychology or related social science major; Master’s degree preferred.

Minimum Experience:  2 to 5 years’ experience

Physical Capabilities:  Long periods of standing and sitting

Work Environment:  Office and simulation center environments

Background:Eligibility to obtain a Common Access Card; eligibility to obtain and hold a Public Trust background.
