HJF is seeking a Research Assistant intern to support a growing International Clinical Research Laboratory at the Biological Defense Research Directorate (BDRD), Naval Medical Research Center (NMRC) in Frederick, MD. The Austere environments Consortium for Enhanced Sepsis Outcomes (ACESO) is headquartered in Frederick, MD and conducts clinical research at numerous international sites. The incumbent will conduct bead-based immuno-assays and/or microarray analysis to characterize the host response to human infection. Experience with gene expression assays (e.g., microarray) as well as immunologic assays (e.g., Luminex, ELISA) is essential.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE: Demonstrated experience working with bead-based immuno-assays such as Luminex/Magpix.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of complex laboratory techniques; ability to follow general instructions; good communication and analytical skills; ability to meet deadlines of projects. Excellent laboratory technique including blood-borne pathogens precautions.
DESIRED EXPERIENCE: Favorable consideration will be given to those with demonstrated experience with Luminex, ELISA and iSTAT technologies.
Minimum Education/Training Requirements: High School or College Coursework in a biological science.
Minimum Experience: 0-2 years of laboratory experience
Physical Capabilities: long periods of standing and sitting; use of both hands; must be capable of working solo and as a laboratory team member; must be able to handle various chemicals and potential biohazards; must be available nights or weekends as needed for completion of laboratory experiments as necessary.
Work Environment: laboratory environment.
Background: US Citizenship required; active Secret Clearance preferred.
