HJF is seeking a highly motivated Research Associate III for the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USU), Graduate School of Nursing located at Bethesda, Maryland.  HJF provides scientific, technical and programmatic support services to USU.

This position will work primarily with the GSN Military Women’s Health Research Interest Group (MWHRIG).  The MWHRIG was established in 2009 and it has contributed to substantial policy changes for women in the military.  The collaborative expertise of the researchers in this program has translated to improved health care for women in the services.  The mission of this multi-disciplinary health care group is to expand the foundation of knowledge upon which can be built expert practices in the preventive, acute, and chronic health care of Servicewomen and evidence-based DoD policies and programs.  The goal is to pave the way for evidence based decision-making in the Military Healthcare System and the DoD that supports the well-being and health of all women that serve in the United States Armed Forces.  The USU – MWHRIG collaborates with partners located at several Military Treatment Facilities and civilian universities.  The Leader of the MWHRIG is the Scientific Director for the series of systematic reviews on sex or gender differences in research findings.

The post-doctoral fellow will have demonstrated research experience with a potential for building a publication record in cooperation with the Scientific Director.  The incumbent will work as a member of this multi-disciplinary group under the directions of the Scientific Director or designee.  As a writing intensive position, the initial work of the incumbent will be to assist with several pre-determined systematic reviews and meta-analyses needed for an upcoming peer-reviewed journal supplement.  Other writing assignments will be determined as the initial project closes that may include additional systematic review/meta-analyses, grant proposal, or research findings publications.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepares project progress reports, scientific presentations and manuscripts for publication.
  • Will assist in designing and developing research projects to address the research gaps identified in collaboration with the project scientific director and other members of the research team.
  • Establishes and maintains databases for research projects.
  • Interacts with the USU Institutional Review Board (IRB) as needed. 
  • Collaborates with statistician for data analysis.
  • Collaborates with medical librarian for literature searches.  
  • Provides collaborative assistance to other research scientists that require the incumbent's expertise.
  • Performs other research support activities as required by the Scientific Director or designee.

 Minimum Education/Training Requirements: Master's degree. Experience/training with systematic reviews and meta-analyses is requested, but not required.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Strong organizational skills; excellent communication skills; ability to work independently; ability to collaborate with team members locally and nationally; ability to draft manuscripts; conduct training as needed. 

Minimum Experience: 4-6 years of experience in health care related field.

Travel: Will require some travel as needed for meetings.

Supervisory Responsibilities/Controls:  This position is not supervisory. Provide guidance to novice research team members and graduate students.

Physical Capabilities:  Long periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
