HJF is seeking a Research Associate I to support the Anesthesiology Department located at the Uniformed Services University (USU) in Bethesda, Maryland. HJF provides scientific, technical and programmatic support services to USU.
Our lab seeks an energetic individual to help us drive our research forward. Perform a variety of professional biochemical, biological, and/or molecular biological research work directed toward understanding and identifying mitochondrial functions in cell injury processes in brain and other body organs of rats with traumatic brain injury. This requires great proficiency in technical skills in the areas of spectrophotometer, plate reader enzyme assays, protein measurements, Western blotting and immune histochemistry. Knowledge of computer software used for experimental data analysis, preparing graphs such as Sigma Plot, SPSS, literature searches and manuscript preparation is required.
The incumbent will also play a role in managing the daily operation of the laboratory. This will include ordering supplies, preparing stock reagents, and maintaining equipment. The incumbent will also be responsible for updating and maintaining laboratory databases, e.g. inventory management, and assistance of safety and regulatory compliance with the PI.
Perform other comparable duties as assigned.
Master's in scientific discipline
Qualified candidates should have strong experimental expertise in biochemistry, molecular and cell biology and rat studies. S/he should also possess excellent written and verbal communication skills, demonstrate the ability to think critically and innovatively, have strong publication record and show leadership capacity.
Minimum Experience: 0-2 years prior research experience in cell metabolism, mitochondrial and redox biology and/or chemical biology is preferred. Help maintain laboratory and equipment, as appropriate
