HJF is seeking a Senior Scientist, Excercise Physiologist to support the Consortium for Health and Military Performance (CHAMP), which supports the Human Performance Resource Center (HPRC) and ArmyFit websites at the Department of Military and Emergency Medicine at Uniformed Services University (USU). HJF provides scientific, technical, and programmatic support services to CHAMP & USU. The incumbent will be responsible for performance (physical fitness) and about extreme environments on the human body for a health and wellness website, to include short to medium length articles, listing of resources, and working on special projects for the website. In addition to the website, work on outreach efforts with Service members to gain insight of their needs.

 

Responsibilities

  • Serve as key scientific resource, or subject matter expert, for the Human Performance Resource Center and ArmyFit websites on physical fitness.
  • Perform translational research. Reviews exercise and environmental physiology literature/information/trends and translate in laymen terms to extensive audience on websites. Evaluate the significance of new directions and emerging trends to optimize performance in accordance with DoD missions and objectives.
  • Review and update physical fitness and physiology in extreme environments existing materials on the HPRC and ArmyFit websites for Service members. Specifically, maintaining two domains on HRPC.
  • Responsible for answering general physical fitness or physiology in various environmental settings questions emailed by physicians/medics/Service members.
  • Performs educational outreach to military students at various colleges/universities about physical fitness and/or environmental factors impacting the human body.
  • Engages with Service members to find out their specific needs are so content can be created for our unique audience members.
  • Helps other staff members interpret literature.
  • Completes other projects as needed.

 

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Experience in interpreting research data and peer-reviewed publications. Experience should include knowledge and translation of research and development. Additionally, incumbent must have demonstrated skill in working as part of a team. Knowledge of electronic data processing, and statistical and analytical procedures.

Minimum Education/Training Requirements:  Master’s degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, or related field with a research background.

Minimum Experience:  4-6 years of experience.

Physical Capabilities:  Walking, standing, and sitting

Supervisory Responsibilities/Controls: Oversees Research Associate(s).

Work Environment:  Works in a well-lighted and heated office, may be required from time-to-time to work in other setting
