HJF is seeking a Program Manager to support the USU Research Training, and Innovation (RTI) Award, and the USU (CSTP) Comprehensive Student Training Program at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USU) in Bethesda, Maryland. HJF provides scientific, technical and programmatic support services to USU. The incumbent will be responsible for providing administrative and logistical support for the sub-programs that make up the USU RTI Award and the USU CSTP. This position is located within the Office of the Vice President for Research, Office of Research Administration. The incumbent will report directly to the Assistant Vice President for Research Administration.


  • Execute and manages pre-award and post-award administrative actions for the RTI Award and all RTI sub-awards
  • Assists with the admissions and recruitment process for the USU Comprehensive Student Training Program
  • Develop forms, organize applications, and act as liaison with potential trainees, parents, schools, and universities
  • Organizes scheduling for each sub-program dates and events.
  • Reserves rooms and times for group activities
  • Organizes special activities and research seminars for trainees
  • Coordinates the end-of-summer Research Symposium. This includes but is not limited to reserving rooms, organizing awards and poster production, and sending invitations
  • Coordinates with the Human Resources and various departments within HJF to facilitate completion of all paperwork required of trainees
  • Coordinates with Departmental Administrative Officers.
  • Coordinates with departmental research administrators for purchases
  • Manage the disbursement of stipends for trainees and mentors
  • Ensures trainees have completed requirements necessary to gain access to Uniformed Services University, Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, and the National Institutes of Health.
  • Cultivates relationships with local high school and college staff, and educates the local community about training opportunities at our University.
  • Collects, manage, and presents data regarding the success of each sub-program and the overall training program
  • Helps maintain website
  • Act as a liaison between the Office for the Vice President of Research and sub-programs, and trainees within each sub-program
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:   Knowledge of scientific research methodology; Knowledge of standard software and word processing; Demonstrate ability to use Oracle, demonstrated ability to follow general instructions; demonstrated ability to interact with diverse communities, demonstrated communication and analytical skills.

Minimum Education/Training Requirements:  Bachelor’s degree preferred.

Minimum Experience:  5 or more years performing pre- and post-award research administration duties. 2-4 years previous experience organizing and coordinating scientific training for high school and college students or 5-6 years managing scientific programs or 5-6 years managing STEM programs for high school and college students or 10 years of experience in a management position.

Work Environment:  Office environment. The incumbent may be required to travel to local universities and high schools for recruitment.
