HJF is seeking a Research Assistant II (Part Time) to support the Val G. Hemming Simulation Center (SIMcenter) at the USU, Forest Glen Annex, Silver Spring, MD. HJF provides scientific, technical and programmatic support services to the USU. Responsible for research and/or development in collaboration with others for projects.   Provides laboratory and technical support to senior technical and professional staff.



  • Performs laboratory research projects, including collection and organization of data.  Makes detailed observations about experiments.  Provides basic data analysis and interpretation.
  • Assists with the preparation of technical reports, summaries, and protocols.
  • Maintains clear and accurate laboratory records, inventories and logbooks.
  • Performs data entry for research projects and maintains databases.
  • Maintains compliance with established laboratory or similar setting safety and other procedures. 
  • Provides quality control, trouble shooting and the maintenance of research equipment.
  • Maintains supplies in the Simcenter and keeps the Simcenter area clean.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:   Ability to follow general instructions; good communication and analytical skills.

Minimum Education/Training Requirements:  Bachelors degree in a scientific discipline.

Minimum Experience:  2 - 4 years of laboratory or similar setting experience.

Physical Capabilities:  Long periods of standing and sitting.

Work Environment:  Simulation Center.
