The Millennium Cohort Study, operating out of the Naval Health Research Center in San Diego, CA, is currently seeking a Research Assistant who will work in collaboration with the Study’s coordinators to provide routine and non-routine research support for the Study, to enhance operating efficiency, manage data collection and data management.

Key Responsibilities and Job Duties:                                                                                 

  • Participates in the collection of research data from study participants through direct mail and email based data collections
  • Sorts and prepares survey documents for imaging
  • Prioritizes and batches material for data entry
  • Collects, organizes and stores participant data with attention to security and confidentiality
  • Provides written and verbal correspondence to study participants
  • Assists with updating study related documents for internal and external use
  • Performs a variety of Internet research functions and uses word processing, spreadsheet and presentation software
  • Sorts and distributes incoming and outgoing mail                                                                
  • Maintains  equipment necessary for survey processing
  • Develops and implements new and more efficient survey processing procedures
  • May assist with overflow work from the department administrative assistant
  • Uses Microsoft PowerPoint and other software to create internal and external presentations. May also edit material and provide basic instruction to presenters
  • Edits copy to ensure proper grammar, spelling, syntax and style
  • Contributes to the team effort by accomplishing related duties as needed

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Requires extreme attention to detail and strong computer and Internet research skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and excellent interpersonal skills are required with the ability to work well with all levels of internal management and staff
  • Sensitivity to confidential matters is required
  • Ability to read, review and summarize scientific journal articles
  • Ability to be a self-starter and work both independent and in group setting
  • Ability to plan and prioritize work
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
  • Advanced computer skills and the ability to train others in system usage are preferred
  • Customer service, data entry and multitasking skills are preferred

 Minimum Education/Training Requirements:  Bachelor's degree in social science or related discipline.

Minimum Experience:  2-4 years’ experience

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:  Knowledge of military personnel and culture

PHYSICAL CAPABILITIES:  Long periods of standing and sitting; frequent lifting and carrying
