HJF is seeking a Laboratory Technician to support next-generation sequencing and genomic profiling methodologies in the Laboratory Core for the Collaborative Health Research Initiative Program (CHIRP) located at the Uniformed Services University of Health Sciences (USUHS) in Bethesda, Maryland. HJF provides scientific, technical and programmatic support services to CHIRP. CHIRP is a collaborative precision medicine research program between the National Institutes of Health and the Department of Defense with a focus on heart, lung, blood and sleep disorders. HJF provides scientific, technical and programmatic support services to CHIRP.

The Laboratory Technician will provide general molecular biology support including nucleic acid isolation, sequencing library preparation and maintenance of next-generation sequencing instrumentation.


  1. Isolates nucleic acid from a wide range of sample types
  2. Generates diverse types of sequencing libraries from nucleic acid samples
  3. Contributes to run performance/maintenance/washes of sequencing platforms
  4. Provides general molecular biology support as required
  5. Makes detailed observations about experiments; provides data analysis and interpretation
  6. Maintains clear and accurate laboratory records, inventories and logbooks
  7. Maintains supplies in the laboratory and keeps the laboratory area clean.
  8. Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of general molecular biology techniques; ability to follow basic instructions; and good communication/analytical skills.

Minimum Education/Training Requirements: Associate's degree in biology or related discipline, Bachelor's degree preferred

Minimum Experience: 0 - 2 years

Physical Capabilities: Periods of standing and sitting; handling various chemicals

Work Environment: Laboratory environment
