The Henry M. Jackson Foundation (HJF) is looking for a Research Assistant II to support research and program objectives at the Naval Medical Research Unit ‐ San Antonio (NAMRU‐SA). HJF provides scientific, technical and programmatic support services to NAMRU-SA at Fort Sam Houston, TX.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:

  • Assist in research design;
  • Set up, operate, modify and maintain laboratory equipment and apparatus;
  • Assist in ordering and maintaining inventory of supplies;
  • Implement and maintain medical files;
  • Make recommendations concerning suitability of potential participants for clinical trials;
  • Recommend changes to protocols;
  • Initiate and maintain regulatory IRB requirements;
  • Oversee the work of more junior staff;
  • Coordinate the implementation of sponsored and PI initiated clinical research studies, including regulatory requirements, maintenance of study records and all activities associated with internal and external audits in coordination with the PI;
  • Schedule and assist with subject medical screening, collecting vital signs, medical histories, and subject notification of study inclusion/exclusion;
  • Modify and plan research experiments, procedures, tests, or survey instruments;
  • Assist with preparation for presentations and written published articles;
  • Assist in managing the study budget; and
  • Provide additional functionality incidental to research activities.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS:

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:  

  • Must have a general knowledge of medical and clinical skills.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Must have excellent interpersonal skills are required to work with study participants.
  • Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Must have analytical skills and possess the ability to resolve technical or research problems and issues.
  • Must have a high degree of computer literacy.
  • Must have the innate capacity and willingness to learn new software, research methods, and work routines quickly; flexibility in responding to new tasks as they arise.
  • Must display careful attention to detail.

Minimum Education/Training Requirements:

  • Must have at least a Bachelor’s Degree in a Science related field with at least five years of experience
