The Henry M. Jackson Foundation (HJF) is looking for a Laboratory Technician II to support research and program objectives at the Naval Medical Research Unit ‐ San Antonio (NAMRU‐SA). HJF provides scientific, technical and programmatic support services to NAMRU-SA.

Responsibilities:

Responsible for supporting laboratory based research applying the latest scientific knowledge towards the solution of a broad range of theoretical and practical problems in the areas of hemorrhage and resuscitation, immunomodulation, directed energy bioeffects, and bioassay development, including the following:

  • Implement and maintain research files;
  • Recommend changes to protocols and standard operating procedures;
  • Modify and plan research experiments, procedures,  and tests;
  • Coordinate the implementation of sponsored and PI initiated laboratory research studies, including maintenance of study records and activities associated with internal and external audits in coordination with the PI;
  • Assist in research design;
  • Assist with preparation for presentations and written published articles;
  • Set up, operate, modify and maintain laboratory equipment and apparatus;
  • Assist ordering and maintaining inventory of supplies; and
  • Provide additional functions incidental to research activities.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Ability to support the implementation of laboratory based research studies, including utilized of state‐of‐the art methodologies in immunology, microbiology, biochemistry, cell biology, and molecular biology; Ability to collect data through complex laboratory/scientific experiments, techniques, and procedures; library research; or through other means for research projects; Ability to organize and maintain the databases; Must have experience and hands‐on knowledge of theory and use of state‐of‐the art equipment, including: flow cytometry, FACS sorting, Luminex (multiplex analysis), real‐time PCR, HPLC, FPLC, protein quantitation and analysis, nucleic acid quantitation and analysis; Must have experience and hands‐on knowledge of in vitro and in vivo model systems; Must have knowledge of computer software, including the Microsoft Office Suite and graphing software.

Minimum Education/Training Requirements: Bachelor’s Degree in Biology, Physiology, Neurophysiology, Neuroscience, Immunology, Microbiology, Biochemistry, Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, or related fields

Minimum Experience:  4 to 6 years experience.
