HJF is seeking an Exercise Physiology Education Specialist to support the Human Performance Research Center, an educational website by the Consortium for Health and Military Performance in the Military & Emergency Medicine Department at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USU) located in Bethesda, Maryland. HJF provides scientific, technical, and programmatic support services to USU. The Specialist serves as exercise physiology education specialist and is responsible for preparing documents, presentations, white papers, and other technology driven efforts to educate Warfighters, Commanders, and health care professionals in the area of exercise physiology and human performance.


  1. Reviews and translates physical performance literature into educational materials.
  2. Assists in educational and related tasks with other educational and support program staff.
  3. Reviews exercise and environmental physiology literature/information for the program as a whole and for individual projects and tasks within the program.
  4. Works with librarian to establish and maintain databases for tracking and tabulating new information related to exercise and environmental physiology as it relates to performance.
  5. Formulates exercise and environmental physiology performance educational and research needs of the line in coordination with the  Program Manager.
  6. Helps evaluate the significance of new directions and emerging trends to optimize performance in accordance with DoD missions and objectives.
  7. Assists in the Human Performance Laboratory, monitoring VO2max and submaximal tests.
  8. Helps other staff members interpret literature.
  9. Completes other projects as needed.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Experience in interpreting research data and peer-reviewed publications. Experience should include knowledge and translation of research and development. Additionally, incumbent must have demonstrated skill in working as part of a team. Knowledge of electronic data processing, and statistical and analytical procedures.

Minimum Education/Training Requirements: Bachelor's degree in Exercise Science or related field or four years of experience in human performance research. Master's degree preferred.

Minimum Experience:  0-2 years in human performance or related field, 4 + preferred.

Physical Capabilities:  Walking, standing, and sitting

Required Licenses: Basic Life Support and ACLS

Work Environment:  Works in a well-lighted and heated office, may be required from time-to-time to work in other setting.
