HJF is seeking a Nutrition Education Specialist to support the Human Performance Resource Center (HPRC), an educational website produced by the Consortium for Health and Military Performance in the Military & Emergency Medicine Department at the Uniformed Services University for the Health Sciences (USU) in Bethesda, MD. HJF provides scientific, technical and programmatic support services to USU.  Responsibilities are to translate the latest most relevant nutrition science into practical resources using multiple platforms to include short videos, articles, blogs, infographics, and social media campaigns. Additionally responsible to tailor nutrition information to the unique needs of the military, to optimize performance and promote and maintain health.


  1. Create, review and update nutrition resources on the topic of general nutrition, performance nutrition and specialty diets designed for military personnel.
  1. Research the latest dietary trends and write briefs, FAQ’s, and factsheets for website.
  1. Selects and develops nutritional education materials for “healthy tips” on website.
  1. Responsible for answering general nutritional and performance nutrition questions emailed by physicians/medics/warfighters.
  1. Rigorously reviews nutrition science. Performs extensive research and compiling of PubMed articles on nutrition, performance nutrition, and any other related topic.
  1. Translates science into practical resources.
  1. Helps evaluate the significance of new dietary interventions and emerging trends to optimize performance in accordance with DoD missions and objectives.
  1. Collaborates with other nutrition-related projects and campaigns, to include Go for Green, Operation Supplement Safety, Performance Triad, etc.
  1. Assists Senior Nutritionist in preparing presentations and briefs, using PowerPoint.
  1. Helps other staff members interpret literature.
  1. Assists Senior Nutritionist with obtaining additional funding and outreach efforts.
  1. Provides instruction to clerical staff affiliated with the program.
  1. Performs other duties as needed.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:   Thorough knowledge of nutrition education; ability to develop nutritional education plans and determine which nutritional formulas are correct for military; excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Minimum Education/Training Requirements:   Master's degree in nutrition, dietetic, or related field.

Minimum Experience:    0 to 2 years experience in nutrition education

Required Licenses, Certification or Registration:  Completed Didactic program with the American Dietetic Association

Work Environment:  Office.
