HJF is seeking a Research Associate II to support the Department of Surgery at the Val G. Hemming Medical Stimulation Center in Silver Spring, MD of the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USUHS). HJF provides scientific, technical, and programmatic support services to USUHS. The candidate will be working closely with the Principal Investigator to conduct simulation based educational research on surgical skills, to include design, execution, data collection, and interpretation of experiments that contribute to project strategies.

Responsibilities:

  • Plans, conducts, and completes investigations under the supervision of Principal Investigator. Assignments require understanding of research methodology, ensuring completion of and compliance with regulatory mandates
  • Develops methods and procedures for experiments and investigations.
  • Recruits and enrolls subjects for investigations and coordinates conduct of studies.
  • Evaluates subjects using established metrics.
  • Collects and enters data into appropriate data bases.
  • Writes and edits experimental results for publication in technical and peer-reviewed journals.
  • Performs data analysis and interpretation and verifies and corrects data entry.
  • Supervises junior staff in the planning, execution, and analysis of experiments.
  • Contributes to required reports, supports new grant and funding applications and participates in invention disclosures as required
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:  Knowledge of research methodology and procedures; ability to meet deadlines of projects; good communication, interpersonal and analytical skills. Detailed knowledge of human anatomy, and working knowledge of basic surgical skills and instrumentation. Computer skills to include Microsoft Word and Excel. Familiarity with basic statistical analysis.

Minimum Education/Training Requirements:  Master's degree in scientific discipline.

Minimum Experience: At least 2-4 years directly related research experience.

Physical Capabilities:  Requires long periods of sitting and standing.

Required Licenses, Certification or Registration:  Must be able to obtain necessary clearances.

Work Environment:  Simulation Center.
