HJF is seeking a Veterinary Technician to support the Translational Imaging Facility (TIF) of the Center for Neuroscience and Regenerative Medicine (CNRM) at the Uniformed Services University of Health Sciences (USUHS) in Bethesda, Maryland. HJF provides scientific, technical and programmatic support services to CNRM. Responsible for handling and preparing animals involved in non-invasive imaging protocols (such as positron emission tomography (PET), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT), computed tomography (CT), and optical imaging). Will provide laboratory and technical support to senior technical and professional staff.

Responsibilities:

 

  1. Performs basic animal care within prescribed IACUC/DLAM standards related to translational imaging studies to include PET, MRI, SPECT, and CT and small animal monitoring.
  2. Performs rodent IV injections, primarily tail vein.
  3. Assists with the preparation of technical reports, summaries, and protocols.
  4. Performs data entry for research projects and maintains databases.
  5. Maintains compliance with established laboratory safety and other procedures.
  6. Assists in the proper disposal of radioactive or hazardous materials.
  7. Maintains clear and accurate laboratory records, inventories and logbooks.
  8. Maintains supplies in the laboratory and keeps the laboratory area clean.
  9. Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:  Animal husbandry, Rodent tail vein injection experience, Knowledge of radiation safety; ability to follow general instructions; good communication, organization, and analytical skills.

Minimum Education/Training Requirements:  Associates degree in a scientific discipline, previous animal experience.

Minimum Experience:  0 to 2 years of laboratory and animal experience, specifically rodent experience.

Physical Capabilities:  long periods of standing and sitting; handling various chemicals; proper handling of radioactive materials, handling of rodents.
